Avoid LED dimming product failure with full project specification

Avoid LED dimming product failure with full project specification

As we enter lighting season, the demand for LED dimming goes through the roof, and with our one-stop-shop, we have a solution for practically every project.

We know that finding the right product isn’t always easy and with common LED concerns - like lamp limits, retrofit wiring and compatibility - it’s not as simple as recommending a ‘one size fits all’ solution. Often, it can seem a simple and straightforward option - once you’ve purchased your lamps and roughly calculated the load of an installation - to opt for a dimmer you’ve used before and think will work but, as you probably already know, nothing’s worse than going to the effort of installing the wrong product.

Spending time fitting a dimmer(s) that you’ll only have to rip out once you’ve come to the realisation that the dimmer you’ve just installed won't work, is frustrating, to say the least.

Whether you’ve mismatched lamps, and the load is greater than initially expected, underestimated inrush current and the dimmer fails, or the lights just won’t turn on, if something doesn’t work it needs to be fixed, costing time and money, and equalling more stress and inconvenience for you.

This is why we say, ‘prevention is better than the cure’.

So, here’s how we can ensure your lighting projects go off without a hitch this lighting season.

Full project specification

Our technical team takes care of project specifications every day. On larger commercial or new build projects, we strongly recommend coming to us first before purchasing your lamps and dimmer(s). We recommend the right dimmer based on a detailed project specification and can test the lamps that will be used against our dimmers, to ensure full compatibility.

Compatibility testing

Unfortunately, not all LEDs are created equal. Even when it comes to big brand names and reputable manufacturers, LEDs can vary widely from model to model. Technical issues like inrush current and power factor can mean the wattage labelled on the box is very different to the actual power consumed by the lamp. Don’t leave your customers’ projects to chance. We can test lamps for compatibility with our dimmers – just call our technical team to discuss sending lamps to us for testing, free of charge.

Easy product finder

If you know the number of lamps you’ll be looking to dim, have a good idea of the total load (calculation guidance here), can rely on their performance, and simply need a dimmer to match, just use our easy product finder and answer a few questions about your project. You can also call our technical team for a second opinion because, as we outline above, the number one way to guarantee no product failure is through full product specification.
